2006-2007 Child Outcomes Assessment

Mercer County Head Start uses the Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum assessment tool to assess the early childhood development of all enrolled children. Assessments are completed 3 times per year, Fall, Winter, and Spring. The results of the assessments are used in program planning, and for individualization activites in each classroom. The complete assessment results can be viewed at the bottom of this page. Adobe flash player is required.

The Creative Curriculum assesses the children on 50 specific domain indicators. For each question, the child can be assessed at one of four levels, Forerunner through Level 3. Each developmental level shows an increased level of ability.

For example, using the question: Follows classroom rules, the child can be assessed as:

  • Level 1 -- Follows classroom rules with reminders
  • Level 2 -- Understands and follows classroom rules without reminders
  • Level 3 -- Follows and understands reasons for classroom rules
  • Forerunner -- Child is not yet at level 1, but does exhibit a level of development.

Another example, using the question: Approaches problems flexibly, the child can be assessed as:

  • Level 1 -- Finds multiple uses for classroom objects
  • Level 2 -- Experiments with materials in new ways when first way doesn't work.
  • Level 3 -- Finds alternative solutions to problems.
  • Forerunner -- Child is not yet at level 1, but does exhibit a level of development.

The results chart below combines all children enrolled in the Head Start program to allow us to view the entire developmental progress of all children 3 and 4 years old. In the chart, the Overall Progress category summarizes all 50 indicator questions. Each of the other questions shows specific developmental categories.
